Why Did Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Raids Give Players an Egg?
The unexpected Egg was only half the problem: affected players were also blocked from catching the event Pokémon afterward.
Short answer
Players who caught an Egg instead of Walking Wake or Iron Leaves before updating to 1.2.0 were affected by a bug that prevented a later catch of those Pokémon. Version 1.3.0 restored that opportunity; the official announcement did not promise to turn the Egg into the missing Pokémon.
Scope: The 2023 Walking Wake and Iron Leaves event issue before version 1.2.0, and the version 1.3.0 correction. No current event availability is implied.

Winning the raid did not give the expected result
The event offered particular Pokémon, but an affected catch produced an Egg. Trying again then ran into a second problem: the player could not catch the intended Pokémon.
Those are separate consequences. Describing only the odd reward misses why the follow-up repair mattered. The player needed another valid chance to catch the event Pokémon, not just an explanation of what was sitting in the collection.
What did the April update actually repair?
The Pokémon Company’s April 20, 2023 announcement says version 1.3.0 lets affected Trainers catch Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. It also announced a return of the events around that update.
It does not describe the code change as clearing a named catch flag, and it does not say an existing Egg will hatch into or transform into either Pokémon. Those extra claims should not be smuggled into a summary of the fix.
A historical rerun is not a current schedule
The event’s return was part of the 2023 response. Reading that announcement today does not establish that the same raids are available now.
For a player checking an old story, the important chain is the outdated software, the incorrect catch and the later restored opportunity. For a player looking for a raid today, the current event notice is a separate thing to check. An old repair announcement cannot answer both questions.
