Code Vein Corrupt Save: Missing Character Listing or Damaged Progress?

A PC community guide distinguishes Code Vein’s CommonData listing from individual GameData progress files.

Short answer

A PC community guide distinguishes Code Vein’s CommonData listing from individual GameData progress files. Recovering a character missing from the menu is different from repairing an unreadable progress file; the guide cannot guarantee either outcome after a crash.

Scope: PC community recovery documentation. A reader’s boss-door crash report did not identify a platform or establish a cause.

What the two file types mean in the guide

The Steam guide’s author describes CommonData_Slot0v008 as an index and GameData_Slot files as character progress. That is the author’s explanation of the recovery method, not a developer statement proving why a particular crash occurred.

If a progress file remains intact but is no longer associated with the menu listing, a recovery procedure may help expose it again. That does not show that an arbitrary damaged GameData file can be reconstructed.

Back up the entire folder first

The PC files are discussed under AppData/Local/CodeVein/Saved/SaveGames. Preserve the whole folder before following the linked guide; keeping only the file that looks important can remove another part of the recovery state.

  1. Make a separate copy of the complete save folder.
  2. Note whether the character is absent from the menu or appears but fails when loaded.
  3. Use the guide only for its documented PC case, retaining the original files so changes can be reversed.

Why the boss-door report does not prove a common cause

The reader said a crash near a boss door was followed by a corrupt-save message, while an older manual save worked. That establishes a usable fallback in that report, not a general boss-door defect. A commenter on the guide also reported an unsuccessful recovery after 77 hours. No final official fix version or guaranteed file repair was verified in the checked material.
