Borderlands 2 PS4 Corrupted Save: Check the Backup Before Uploading

Short answer

PS4 and PS5 backward-compatibility players have reported Borderlands 2 crashes followed by corrupted saves. Before uploading or restoring anything, check which local or cloud copy still works: replacing the healthy copy can remove the remaining recovery option.

Scope: Player reports about PS4 software, including PS4 Pro and PS5 backward compatibility. No verified universal cause or final fix version in the checked thread.

The reports do not isolate one DLC

The PSNProfiles thread includes failures around DLC introductions, including Pirate DLC, as well as reports outside that narrow situation. Other participants describe long sessions without the same failure. The thread therefore does not establish that every DLC introduction will damage a save.

Suggestions involving long sessions, a memory leak or the HD texture pack are player theories in this record. They are not presented as a developer-confirmed explanation.

The cloud copy can be older—or it can be the last good one

One player found a cloud backup five days old at level 11. Another described overwriting the cloud copy with a bad local file, losing access to a level-80 OP10 character; an older level-68 cross-save remained. These are individual accounts, not typical recovery amounts.

  1. Check the dates and character details of available backups.
  2. Keep a separate healthy copy where the platform permits before any upload or download replaces a file.
  3. Confirm the direction of the transfer: uploading replaces the cloud copy; downloading replaces the selected local copy.

Reinstalling the game does not recreate an overwritten character

Game files and saved character progress are different things. A reinstall is not evidence that a missing healthy backup can be recovered. The checked thread does not provide an official final repair version, so this article does not label the issue fixed—or claim every current player is affected.
