Why Does the Evade Stat Not Work in SNES Final Fantasy VI?
The original dodge checks use Magic Block where a player would expect physical Evade to matter.
Short answer
RPG Legion’s patch documentation explains that SNES Final Fantasy VI uses Magic Block for the affected physical and magical dodge checks. Raising physical Evade therefore does not provide the expected benefit. The author’s repair is a community patch, not an official update to existing cartridges.
Scope: Original SNES Final Fantasy VI, released as Final Fantasy III in North America; the behavior examined by RPG Legion.

The equipment number changes, but the expected protection does not
A player can choose equipment for its physical Evade value and then enter battle expecting more physical attacks to miss. In the affected calculation, that displayed value is not the one deciding the dodge. Magic Block is doing the work instead.
The cost is the equipment choice: taking an item for physical Evade does not buy the physical avoidance the player expected. That does not establish that every attack in the game can be dodged, or that equipment has no other useful properties.
Blind and Beads share the problem
The same patch-author documentation identifies related failures in the intended Blind and Beads effects. The repair restores physical hit-rate penalties in the cases it describes. Those are specific behavior changes, not grounds to describe every status effect as broken.
The later repair belongs to the patch author
RPG Legion publishes the changed byte locations alongside the explanation. Applying that community patch changes the affected behavior; owning an original SNES cartridge does not apply it automatically. Patchlo has not tested the patch on hardware. Other ports and remasters need their own version check rather than inheriting the original’s bug list.
