HITMAN 2 / GAME HISTORY
Why Did Hitman 2 Bring Back the Slow Homing Briefcase?
The slow chase returned as a specific unlockable item, rather than a mistake applied to every briefcase.
Short answer
IO Interactive brought the slow homing throw back as the ICA Executive Briefcase Mk II after players enjoyed the original bug. Its return in August 2019 turned an unexpected behavior into a specific unlockable item.
Scope: HITMAN 2 (2018), the 2019 ICA Executive Briefcase Mk II release; not Hitman 2: Silent Assassin.

What made the original throw funny?
The case did not simply hit the ground beside a moving target. It could keep following while moving slowly enough for the chase to be easy to watch. A short throw became a small pursuit.
That visible behavior is enough to explain the appeal. We do not need to invent an aerodynamic drag value, a collision formula or a developer’s private reason for changing it. Those details are not established by the footage or the release announcement.
What changed when it came back?
The Mk II was tied to the Best Case Scenario challenge pack in August 2019. Players could seek out that particular reward instead of relying on a launch-version mistake remaining untouched.
That distinction matters when comparing clips. An early bugged briefcase, an ordinary briefcase after a fix, and the later Mk II are not automatically the same item. The game’s title and the item’s name are more useful identifiers than a video’s upload date alone.
Does this mean all tracking throws were bugs?
No. A throw following its selected target and a throw travelling at an unexpectedly slow speed are different observations. Showing the case turn does not, on its own, identify the original mistake.
The interesting history is the change in how the behavior was offered. Players first shared a surprising result; later they could unlock an item that deliberately kept the slow pursuit. The official game image here supplies context, not a frame-by-frame demonstration of that throw.
