Short answer

A PS3 player reported escaping the optional dragon room by using Hermione’s cat near the left ledge and repeatedly jumping and casting. It is a documented player workaround, not a guaranteed fix or evidence that every trapped save must be deleted.

Scope: LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1–4, PS3 report posted on a Steam forum. Other ports, remasters and Years 5–7 are not established by that forum’s location.

The dragon did not return the player to the upper level

Steam user Kharliah described entering the optional basement connected to Flitwick’s classroom. After assembling the dragon, the expected bounce did not carry the character out; they fell back down and remained trapped. The post explicitly identifies PS3, despite appearing on Steam.

A separate YouTube reply also describes the cat-based escape. Those accounts support investigating that route; they do not establish a single collision-code explanation for every room failure.

The reported sequence

The forum poster described reaching the Golden Brick position after repeated attempts. Their estimate of 25–35 tries is not a threshold the game requires or a guarantee that the next attempt will work.

  1. Use Hermione’s Crookshanks ability if it is available in the trapped state.
  2. Move to the left ledge described in the linked report.
  3. Try the reported jump-and-cast sequence while retaining any earlier save.
  4. Check whether the character reaches the upper or Golden Brick area before continuing.

A long-standing report is not a verified final patch history

The reader’s question describes searching for an escape for years. That gives the question a concrete purpose, but it does not prove that all versions remained unfixed. The checked sources do not identify a final correction version. They also do not establish that this action awards a Golden Brick or repairs unrelated Hogwarts softlocks.
