Why Does Escaping Cut Man’s Fight Make Mega Man Jerk Around?

Leaving the room does not necessarily end the boss fight’s logic.

Short answer

TASVideos describes Cut Man’s fight remaining active after Mega Man escapes the room. If Cut Man then tries to control scissors that are no longer present, the resulting updates can affect Mega Man’s data. Mega Man jerks up and down and may die or, in the worst documented case, reset the game.

Scope: Original NES Mega Man behavior documented by TASVideos; later collections require a separate check.

The throw happens after the escape

The research concerns an out-of-bounds escape, not a normal victory. Cut Man remains alive and his battle continues. When he throws from off screen, the expected scissors object is absent, but his return-to-hand behavior still tries to update it.

  1. Enter Cut Man’s battle.
  2. Escape while leaving him alive.
  3. Cut Man attempts the scissors throw from off screen.
  4. Mega Man’s movement and pose can become erratic.

The object search fails without stopping the update

TASVideos attributes the problem to the scissors lookup result not being checked. The later writes can overlap Mega Man’s object data instead. That attribution belongs to the site’s research and linked tool-assisted movie; it is not a developer statement.

Another boss fight ends the old fight

The recorded example stops the glitching when the Clone robot battle begins, ending Cut Man’s battle state. Mega Man can retain a strange pose briefly. Reaching that fight is an observed result in the research, not a guaranteed rescue from every failed escape or a recommendation to risk an ordinary run.
