Short answer
The September 26, 2025 Cronos patch notes list a fix for gates failing to open after the cemetery encounter and generator. The older cat-and-weapon route was a community workaround, not the only response after the update.
Scope: September 2025 cemetery reports and PC patch reporting. No guarantee of recovery for every existing save.

What the patch entry addressed
John Papadopoulos’ September 29 DSOGaming report reproduces the September 26 changelog. Its critical-fix list specifically names the cemetery gates, completed encounter and enabled generator.
That supplies the later outcome missing from the early complaints. It establishes the fix’s stated target, not an exact save-reconstruction procedure.
The September player reports
AetherDawned reported killing the enemies near the church while the doors remained closed. Downsey described powering the door and immediately seeing Conflict, with the route back also unavailable.
- Enter the cemetery encounter area.
- Complete the fight and operate the relevant generator.
- Check whether the combat state ends.
- Distinguish a locked gate from an encounter with an active threat.
The route players tried before the fix
Downsey reported success after loading a save from arrival in the area and going straight to the fight before obtaining the cat and last weapon. Several replies confirmed success; WedMakZz said an earlier manual save did not help their case.
The thread also mentions different weapon use on a successful attempt. These observations do not prove a cat pickup alone caused the fault. They are not a controlled comparison.
What to do with an old blocked slot
Install available updates before repeating an old avoidance route. Keep the affected slot and an earlier one if available, then check whether the gate behaves normally.
The changelog does not promise every previously trapped save is repaired automatically. It does not justify saying fresh playthroughs can never encounter another gate issue.
