Short answer
Patch 0.02 removed Motel floppy disks while the sewer save problem was tracked. Patch 0.05 restored Motel saving and listed incorrect loaded-data fixes, with a new-game warning. The first notice was not a completed fix.
Scope: PC launch-period 2025 reports and official patches 0.02/0.05. Later builds and language branches must be checked separately.

The saved state did not match the lever action
Dirnius reported draining the sewer water, saving, dying and loading an earlier-looking state without the lever. The immediate problem was replaying progress the player believed had been saved.
The post establishes observed actions. It does not identify an internal variable or prove every sewer save failed.
The reported sequence
Keep the last working slot separate before testing the same sequence again.
- Operate the lever to drain the water.
- Use a save point and continue.
- Die during the following section.
- Load and compare the water, lever and progression state.
The temporary response came first
The official 0.02 notice says floppy disks were removed from the Motel to track the sewer saving bug. That describes an investigation measure.
The 0.05 notice restores Motel saving and floppy disks. It lists incorrect loaded information at the Motel, Iron Gates and Uptown, and says a new game would be needed to clean saves. That is not a promise that installing the patch restores all old progress.
Do not turn an old reset warning into today’s blanket advice
A November forum reply recommended wiping data. That is a player’s launch-period response, not a command to delete every present-day save. Preserve data before considering a reset.
Later developer announcements discuss further save-system work and incompatible builds. Check the current branch’s instructions; this historical record alone cannot settle whether a particular current file can be recovered.
