How Can a Frozen Fire Pillar Push Mega Man Through a Wall?

Fire changes from a passable hazard to solid ice while the character occupies it.

Short answer

TASVideos documents freezing a fire pillar around Mega Man so that it becomes solid while he is inside it. Pressing A can then move him into the floor and start a zip. Simply pressing left or right in the example makes him leave the wall instead.

Scope: Original NES Mega Man behavior documented by TASVideos; later collections require a separate check.

The changing pillar creates the collision

The source identifies freezable pillars in Fire Man’s stage and Wily 1. Before freezing, the fire is passable; afterward it counts as solid material. The demonstration uses damage to get Mega Man into position before that change.

  1. Take damage so Mega Man can move through the fire.
  2. Freeze the pillar while he occupies its space.
  3. Press A from that position.
  4. The demonstrated result puts him into the floor and begins the zip.

Why walking sideways is not the same setup

In the recorded position, he is close enough to the wall’s left edge that left or right exits the solid area. The A input changes the placement before the sideways ejection. This is why “freeze the fire and walk through the stage” leaves out the important action.

A precise demonstration, not a general shortcut

TASVideos notes that its animation includes delays for clarity and that the sequence can be faster. That is not a promise that it is easy during ordinary play. This account follows the original NES demonstration; no later-release repair date or firsthand test is claimed.
