Legend vs Legend II: Which Fish Can You Catch Again?

Separate the original Legend catch flag from repeat Legend II catches during Extended Family, and distinguish pond roe production from breeding.

The direct answer

The original Legend cannot normally be hooked again after your character catches it. Legend II can be caught repeatedly while Extended Family is active. Neither fish breeds in a pond, although both can occupy one-fish ponds from version 1.6.9 onward.

Scope: Unmodded Stardew Valley 1.6.x. Legendary pond placement requires 1.6.9 or later; catch limits are distinct from multiple-fish item exceptions.

Both use the Mountain lake and require Fishing level 10. The original Legend's seasonal rule has a Magic Bait exception. [1][2]

A catch flag is not an inventory limit

In multiplayer, the original Legend restriction is per player. Challenge Bait and the Fisher-enchanted pan can also produce extra specimens under the documented conditions. Thus “you can never own more than one” is too broad. The useful rule here concerns hooking the original again after it has been caught. [1]

Plan around the active quest

If extra Legend II fish are your goal, keep track of the Extended Family quest state. Do not assume it remains available after that active window ends. Extra catches and pond reproduction are different systems: a legendary pond can produce roe, but its population remains one. [2]

Our recommendation: decide whether you want another specimen or roe before planning the trip. For the pond side, see the legendary fish pond version guide.
